Mark your calendars for May 23 & 24, 2025! Youth Mental Health Canada (YMHC) is excited to announce a groundbreaking national virtual conference titled "Strategies to Support Students with Chronic School Absenteeism." This event will bring together educators, mental health professionals, community workers, and families to explore best practices for re-engaging students who have disengaged from school.
Chronic school absenteeism, or what some call “school can’t,” is an alarming trend impacting young people across Canada. Many students are not simply choosing to avoid school; instead, they face significant mental health challenges, school phobia, or emotional distress. Addressing these issues is crucial for their educational success, mental well-being, and future opportunities. Sadly, these young people often go unnoticed, and our education system lacks the resources to track and support them effectively.
YMHC is working closely with an event planner to ensure this virtual conference will provide education and mental health professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to support these students. However, to make this event as impactful and accessible as possible, we are seeking sponsors to provide financial support. With your help, we can extend the reach of the conference to professionals and families across Canada, offering critical insights and strategies for educational and life success.
We invite organizations and individuals who share our vision of creating a national framework for student engagement and mental health support to join us. Your sponsorship can make a meaningful difference in helping to prevent the disengagement of students, improve educational outcomes, and address the mental health needs of vulnerable youth.
In addition to financial sponsorship, we are also seeking education and mental health professionals to join our conference organizing committee. Your expertise and dedication will help shape the program and ensure the conference addresses the most pressing needs of students and professionals alike.
To express your interest in sponsoring or joining the committee, please reach out to us at ymhc.ngo/contact. Together, we can create lasting change and bring students back into the fold of education, supporting them in their journey towards health, wellness, and academic success.
Let's work together to ensure that no student is left behind.
